I never really paid attention to what kind of laundry detergent I got as long as it made my clothes smell good. I never even thought of a simple and effective nontoxic laundry routine. Even though I was always really sensitive to certain sense because I would get migraines a lot.

When I started having babies and realizing that they sold separate baby detergent, I wasn’t going to wash my babies clothes separate. That just seemed way too high maintenance for me so I started looking into a nontoxic laundry detergent instead of just baby detergent.

Once the detergent was taken care of, I started moving onto fabric softener, and realized white vinegar and some Epsom salts worked just fine.

Next came the dryer sheets. They smell so strong and always burnt my nose, no matter what kind I used. After a while, I started looking at the ingredients and I was shocked. Not to mention having them everywhere and all over the place when I folded laundry I got sick of it. So I invested in wool dryer balls.

Here is my Simple and Effective Nontoxic Laundry Routine

Step 1. Detergent

There is a small cup that comes in your kit. You only need a small cup for an entire load.

For detergent I love using Branch Basics. This is so affordable, I get to use this adorable little glass laundry bottle to keep on my shelf and I can use it in my entire house.

You can get $10 off by using my link for your first order through Branch Basics.

I promise you won’t be disappointed using this in your simple nontoxic laundry routine 😉

Step 2. Add Oxygen Boost to Your Nontoxic Laundry Routine

It comes with a scooper in the bag. One little scoop goes a long way!

This is another one of my favorite products from Branch Basics! Ditch the Oyx Clean and switch to Oxygen Boost today. I will add a scoop to my washer for an extra boost, especially for my husband’s work clothes (he works in a factory with chemicals) towels, and sheets.

Step 3. White Vinegar

Add 1/4 cup of white vinegar per load. I usually just guesstimate, but I’d say it is probably a quarter cup.

This is a great cleaning boost and fabric softener. Not to mention keeping the load fresh when you forget about it in the washer for a little too long 🙈

Step 4. Epsom Salts

I add 1 TLBS. to a regular load, 2 if it is a large load (like bedding)

I use this for an added softener for my laundry. I don’t use this every time, but I try to for sure for towels and bedding.

Disclaimer I have a plain top load washer, I do not have a GE washer. I would check just if it is safe for a front loader before using.

That’s it for the washer!

Step 5. Wool Dryer Balls

I think that my clothes smell nice and fresh when I pull them out of the dryer. But some people like a little extra scent added. You can add some essential oils to the dryer balls before throwing them into the dryer.

That’s it! There is my simple and effective nontoxic laundry routine. I hope you decide to give it a try because it really is so important to keep your daily habits and routines as nontoxic as possible for you and your family.
